Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport

You should see this amazing airport! This is Bangkok's new airport, about 25 km east of the city. Pronounced su-wan-na-poom, the name was chosen by King Bhumibol Adulyadej and refers to the ancient kingdom thought to have been located somewhere in Southeast Asia.

Designed by Helmut Jahn, this airport has the world's tallest control tower, and the world's second largest single building and airport terminal, just a little smaller than Hong Kong International Airport but larger than South Korea's Incheon International Airport.

Aside from these feats, the airport boasts of an ultramodern tent and glass design that is sure to fascinate every air traveler.

this was taken also during my trip to washington dc. this is a small gazebo near the reflecting pool. i thought that title was rather apt for the capitol, where good and evil are in constant tug of war...

tried handheld hdr with this shot. i had some alignment problems and some chromatic aberrations overall i think it's not that bad. i hope you like it...

do you see the birdie taking a swan dive?

orchids are one of the more challenging flowers to photograph (aside from gerberas, of course! lol)! in this shot, look closely and you will see the image of a little bird with eyes, a beak and wings! if you have a wilder imagination, you may even see a bird-fish, with a tail like that of a mermaid, taking a swan dive! lol!

this was taken at the washington dc botanical gardens during my last visit there. if you have time, take a look at the whole set: www.flickr.com/photos/doctony/sets/72157600264872206/show/

the reclining buddha (back from bangkok!)

This is a photo of one of my favorite temples in Bangkok, the reclining Buddha! The reclining Buddha represents the Gautama Buddha at his death. It is said that the Buddha knew death was approaching, and asked his disciples to prepare a couch for him in a grove. He lay there, reclining on his right side, facing west, with his head supported by his hand, as he passed into nirvana.

The image of the reclining Buddha is not supposed to evoke sadness, but rather encouragement that all beings have the potential to become enlightened and attain release from the sufferings which characterize the cycle of rebirth. The reclining Buddha's serene, composed, and restful demeanor (he is actually slightly smiling) a reminder of the serenity that comes with enlightenment.

another manila bay sunset. this is from the mall of asia, one of the biggest malls here in manila, taken when the sun is about to set. the horizon is yellow-orange, the sky is still blue, and the sea glimmered with a golden tinge. that was just a heavenly sight!
