learning how to mix colors

i love how the reds and blues mixed to create the purplish hue in the horizon, just like mixing water color in art class! what better way to learn than from the Master Himself!

i am glad to catch the sun doind a "peek-a-boo" amongst the clouds and the mountains today. another day passes. how time flies!

just got to watch "slumdog millionaire" grab the best picture at the oscars too and that was fantastic! did you know that movie was supposed to go directly to dvd? just an amazing movie.

all you need is love....

There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say, but you can learn
How to play the game -
It's easy.
Nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do, but you can learn
How to be you in time -
It's easy.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love. Love is all you need.
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love. Love is all you need.
There's nothing you can know that isn't known.
Nothing you can see that isn't shown.
There's nowhere you can be that isn't where
You're meant to be -
It's easy.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love. Love is all you need.

Happy Valentine's my friends!

another lensbaby shot, this time of these three cute little angels i got for christmas! a message appropriate for the valentine season as well? lol!

did not do much processing here, just a bit of levels and cropping. that's a coconut tree in the background.

witnessing nature's grandeur

witnessed the grandeur of the manila bay sunset once more, this time zoomed closer to catch the details of small boats underneath.

have a great week everyone! will try o catch up later when i get home.

underneath the setting sun

this was taken a different day from yesterday's shot, with a small ship. it was only after browsing through the shots that i noticed the small ship was directly under the setting sun in this!

enjoy the rest of your day!

the right place at the right time

another day, another sunset. i was pleasantly surprised that the ship centered itself into view just as the sun dipping into the horizon! it was just perfect! the smoke coming out from the boat was a bonus!

it's the end of the day, have you done good?

i am on a roll with the sunset! i am able to get home early nowadays to be able to catch it on a daily basis, so i hope you don't get tired of the manila bay!

do you know why twilight is colored blue?

this time the sun has set and i just love seeing the blue sky and clouds! still got a bit of the golden light here, a yellow strip of light between the blueness.

i have been late in catching up my friends, a bit busy at work now...thanks for all your visits!!!

have you seen a partial eclipse of the setting sun???

i was not aware that this astronomical phenomenon was taking place yesterday! got home too late and was just able to see the partially eclipsed sun already setting in the horizon! it would have been great seeing it from the start before it set!

this is the first time that i have seen the eclipsed sun setting in the manila bay and it was awesome! of course, used the flood here to make it look more dramatic, but the setting sun itself was a spectacular sight!

the skies were gray today, but when the sun dropped below the gray skies, it created this smoldering globe before it finally set in the horizon! i was still in the car when i saw the sun slowly dropping below the gray skies. good thing i was fast enough to get my gear out of the drybox and put the zoom lens on the D3 just in time to catch it finally disappear below the deep blue sea.

i have been toying with the idea of doing portraiture with the lensbaby so this is some kind of an experiment. took this with just looking into the camera and guessing where the sweet spot is, and was quite pleasantly surprised with what i came up with. it is quite tricky to get the right exposure so generally i shoot raw and try to underexpose a bit so i can make adjustments later on.

happy lensbaby bokeh day!

i always thought that i could recreate the effects of the lensbaby using photoshop. i was wrong. but still, i gave it up, because i found it so difficult to use and focus!

well, the new lensbaby has arrived! and i just love how i can use one hand to bend and focus it like a regular lens!

will post my first few macros (yup! i got the macro kit!) with this awesome lens and to start off here is my favorite adenium in bloom. interestingly, this one has one of its petals all curled up and ready for a shot!

Have a Blessed One...

always choose to heal, not to hurt...
to forgive, not to despise...
to persevere, not to quit...
to smile, not to frown...
and to love, not to hate.

at the end of the day, what really matters is not what we bought, but what we built...
not what we got, but what we shared...
not our competence, but our character...
and not our success, but our significance.

live a life that matters...
live a life that cares.

Merry Christmas! from Doc Tony

this is the second variety of the poinsettia in our home that i wrote about yesterday. the leaves are more magenta and red and have quite a bit more detail on them. happy christmas everyone!!! going to the market to get some stuff for "noche buena" (christmas eve dinner) tomorrow night. still thinking of what to cook though. i hope to get some fresh salmon and lamb. aside from the usual christmas ham, cheese and wine, of course!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

my first holiday photo that i actually wanted to post. no snow here, but we got these wonderful red christmas blooms all over our house and it is just amazing. i got another kind with more pointy leaves that i will photograph soon, hopefully before the 25th!

vienna's famous sacher torte: may i offer you a bite?

allegedly the most famous cake in the world, i just had to taste hotel sacher's orignal sacher torte. the recipe is supposedly one of the hotel's well-kept secrets and you should really try it when in vienna.

or you order it online! shop.sacher.com/

it is quite expensive, costs about 20 euros fro a 12 cm cake!

it really is just gorgeous with a cup of espresso. the bitter sweet dark chocolate just enhances the coffee experience.

around the opera house in vienna you might feel you are back in them time of mozart. you see a lot of these gentlemen dressed in medieval garbs - they are actually trying to sell tickets to watch an opera or a musical inside. my friends decided to get tickets to la traviata, even if the seats available costs 200 euros each!

road to the past (of horses and naked horsemen)

the entrance path to the national library in vienna. too bad i did not have time to enter as i was on my way to the sisi museum at that time, but i can imagine the vast knowledge of the past that this place has. the library grounds and garden is quite a spectacular work of art too, as you see with the sculpture of a man and his raging horse that adorns the entrance to the walk. i see a lot of scultures of naked men and horses and made me wonder: did they actually ride the horses with no clothes on? that must have been quite a task! lol!

it has been a while since i posted something pink...now i can't believe i posted two in one week!

just a small plant that i tripped on while on the way to slazburg ha ha! i thought it looked like pink wormy flowers with those elongated stems studded with those delicate forettes...
