stretching out
i have not used my nikkor 18-200VR for quite a while and i thought i would take it for a spin last sunday. shot this in a park in a mall actually. the greenbelt park has the most awesome orchids and ferns in the city if you ask me. they must have cost a fortune to bring these living fossils into the center of the city. and they are thriving very well!

Lecco, Italy
Lecco is a busy industrial center, and not a place where many travelers stay the night. However, it is worthy of its place on a tour of the Lake District because the centre of the old city along the lake, well-buffered from the industrial suburbs, has a definite charm and contains just the right number of things to do and see for a day's outing.

arc de la paz
At the end of the Sempione Park is this arch similar to that of the Carrousel Arch in Paris. It was under renovation during my visit, but it sure was an imposing structure.

Milan at Dusk
That is the Milan Castello at the back and the statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi in the middle. I am not sure what street this is but it is very near Pt. Bonaparte. I just had a pizza for dinner and on my way back to the hotel. I wish I had taken more night shots.

Stazione Centrale di Milano
Milan Central Station (in Italian, Stazione Centrale di Milano or Milano Centrale) is one of the main European railway stations. It is a railway terminus officially inaugurated in 1931 to replace the old (1864) central station, which was a transit station and could not handle the new traffic caused by the opening of the Sempione tunnel (1906).
It has been characterized by Frank Lloyd Wright as one of the most beautiful stations in the world, together with New York's Grand Central Terminal.
On September 25, 2006, officials announced a €100 million project, already in progress, to refurbish the station. Of the total cost, €20 million has been allocated to restore "certain areas of high artistic value" while the remaining €80 million will be used for more general improvements to the station to make it more functional with the current railway services. The project includes moving the ticket office and installing new elevators and escalators for increased accessibility.
A lot of restoration was ongoing during our visit, not to mention the number of billboards hanging, so it was really quite difficult to capture it in its original state.

carnivale
Masks have always been a central feature of the Venetian carnival; traditionally people were allowed to wear them between the festival of Santo Stefano (St. Stephen's Day, December 26) at the start of the carnival season and midnight of Shrove Tuesday.
As masks were also allowed during Ascension and from October 5 to Christmas, people could spend a large proportion of the year in disguise. Maskmakers (mascherari) enjoyed a special position in society, with their own laws and their own guild.
Carnival starts around two weeks before Ash Wednesday and ends on Shrove Tuesday (Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras), the day before Ash Wednesday. (from Wikipedia)
