my first dahlia! i have found them quite challenging to photograph. they can be pretty amazing flowers in real life but quite ordinary looking on photographs. perhaps the difficulty is in trying to get the right light to bring out the essence of each and every petal.

i thought the last two sunsets i caught were awesome, and yet, i still get surprised by the next one. i actually caught the sun setting this time, but this photo showing the sun barely peeking from the mountains showed the most spectacular orange sky i have seen so far. no changes in hues here, just did levels adjustments.

a secret garden
Originally uploaded by doctony
one more from my DC. i found this small gazebo on my way back to the mall from the jefferson memorial. it is very near the reflecting pool, and quite secluded from the flocks of people going to the lincoln memorial. it was beautiful, but like a secret garden, only a few knew of its existence. i was glad i found it!

this is handheld HDR from three exposures. it was a bit difficult aligning, but i think it came out alright.

a secret garden
Originally uploaded by doctony
i was late catching the sunset, but still, the sky was painted with spectacular colors by the sun that just set. for those who do not know, i live across the manila bay, and when i am home early i am blessed to witness the setting of the sun. perhaps you will notice a lot of boats in my sea and sky pics, as manila bay is the busiest bay in manila, with the port just a few kilometers away from my place.

Originally uploaded by doctony
banana leaves are very useful in the rural philippine kitchen. they can be used to wrap food like meat, fish and rice before steaming, grilling, boiling, frying or even baking, and gives food a very unique refreshing flavor. aside from that, they may also serve as plates! in some festivities, banana leaves cover tables and food are served directly on clean fresh leaves. no need for plates and cutlery. you eat with your hands. just remember to wash them thoroughly before and after! lol!

green is one of my supposedly "lucky" colors, and i really like it as well. with this photo i will place all my green photos and put them all together in a set. i got a new lens to try this past week, the canon 70-200F4 IS and had nowhere to test run the new toy, so ended up taking shots of palm trees and leaves around the clinics and hospital i work in.
